Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. -- Psalm 37:7
I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. -- Psalm 40:1
I'm really not a very patient person. When I want something, I don't like having to wait to get it. I like getting from point A to point B as quickly as possible and tend to get angry when I get delayed. Turns out, that doesn't work out too well. It creates stress, both on me and everyone around me. It creates health issues because we aren't created to live at the pace we live and under the stress we find ourselves living under.
As I've grown as a Christ follower, I have improved the level of my patience. The only reason I know this is that my stress level is lower...things that would send me flying off the handle don't bother me like they did. My relationships with my wife and kids are far better than they were.
When we grow closer to God and have the Holy Spirit as our guide, patience is a natural evolution for us. We're told to 'be still before the Lord and wait patiently'. God doesn't work on our schedule, but He does work and always to the good! There are a ton of things that go on in the world that make no sense. Lots of wicked things happen all of the time that seemingly go unpunished.
But those things aren't our concern. If we get still in our hearts and wait on God to act, if we 'wait patiently for the Lord', he will 'hear my cry'.
My wife has been talking to a friend who has been keeping a prayer journal. The insight she's gained from her experience is to see just how God has answered her prayers. Prayer requires patience and patience is a fruit produced from the Holy Spirit. Become still, wait for the Lord, pray about everything no matter how big or small, and watch as He hears your cry.
