1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul;
2 in you I trust, O my God.
Do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.
3 No one whose hope is in you
will ever be put to shame,
but they will be put to shame
who are treacherous without excuse.
4 Show me your ways, O LORD,
teach me your paths;
5 guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long. -- Psalm 25 NIV
Third Day does a really excellent version of the 25th Psalm called...you guessed it!...My Hope Is You. Talking a little bit more about relying on God, I think this Psalm really speaks to the reasons why we should do that.
Our hope IS God, not really that God is going to do something for us or that He is there simply to bail us out when things get tough. He may very well be those things, but the peace of God comes from knowing that He means absolutely everything and that there is no hope outside of that. It's as cut and dry as anything could ever be.
Mankind proved ourselves wicked from the get-go and God proved Himself loving and generous enough to send Jesus for us so that we might be redeemed and have the eternal life we were destined for. That's reason to celebrate anytime, regardless of our worldly circumstances!
